Dorcas Meadowes is a seventh year Gryffindor. She is a half-blood: her father, Mark Meadowes, a wizard from London who worked for the Department of International Magical Cooperation, met a Greek muggle girl while he was in Athens for work. They got married and had two children, Dorcas and Ajax, and shortly after they moved to England.
Doe showed signs of magic from a very young age. She was also an intelligent girl who loved learning new things. Her father was sure that she would be sorted into Ravenclaw, just like him, so it was such a big surprise when the Sorting Hat placed her in Gryffindor.
Dorcas loved being a Gryffindor: she felt very proud of herself, and she loved her house friends. Soon she became good friends with three girls: Marlene McKinnon, Lily Evans and Mary MacDonald.
However, everything changed the summer after her first year at Hogwarts. On a warm evening, Dorcas was playing in the garden with her brother Ajax. Suddenly, a Death Eater apparated there: that summer, Death Eaters were starting to attack muggleborns and muggles. Mark Meadowes spoke openly in the Ministry against Voldemort, so they decided to scare him by attacking his wife or his children.
Dorcas had never seen a Death Eater before and she hadn’t heard very much about them, but she recognized the man in her garden as a Death Eater in the very moment she saw him. She had never been so scared in her life, and she run. She didn’t think of anything else, she only run. Luckily, her father came out of the house in that moment and attacked the Death Eater, who suddenly disapparated.
The incident in the garden made Dorcas think. Why had she been sorted into Gryffindor? It had been proven that she wasn’t brave. She run and left her brother alone! If her father hadn’t come, he could have killed him! She should have tried to save him, to protect him, but she didn’t: she run. She was a coward, and she didn’t deserve to be in Gryffindor.
Everybody told her that she couldn’t have done anything to help Ajax, and that she shouldn’t blame herself. However, those thoughts and insecurities took hold of her, and her personality changed: but she became much more reserved and insecure. Her biggest fear was to disappoint her family and friends, to let down the people she loved.
Dorcas, nonetheless, was a nice and happy girl. She loved her life at Hogwarts and she was friendly with most people (except the Slytherins). It was still hard for her to get to trust completely a person, but she knew she had the best friends in the world, the Maraudettes, and she could rely on them no matter what.
Doe loved reading and writing. She was an intelligent girl and it was clear that she would be a great witch, even though she didn’t need to study very much. She loved spending time with her best friends: they could talk and laugh for hours together. She was quiet and liked to spend some time alone, though, she wasn’t as out-going as the rest of the Maraudettes, so when people didn’t know her they thought she could be boring.
Doe, unlike some of her friends, wasn’t the flirty type. She was beautiful, and some boys had asked her out, but it was difficult for her to trust them because of her own insecurities. Benjy Fenwick, a Hufflepuff in her year, was the only guy she had dated while they both were in fifth year, but, since her sixth year, she had fallen in love with Remus Lupin.
She had always been friends with him. Their personalities were alike and they had lots of things in common, so she really liked him, but, when she was sixteen, she had started to feel something else for him. He was really handsome, and his mysterious aura attracted her very much... She had only told the Maraudettes, and Marlene was constantly joking about it, but Dorcas had promised herself something: in her last year at Hogwarts, she would change. She wouldn’t be coward anymore, or insecure. She would be brave, a true Gryffindor, and she would fight for what she wanted. She would fight for him.
